Chasing Light, Embracing Imperfection
My work begins as a personal conversation with the world, a private endeavor to document subjects that spark my curiosity. I am an observer drawn equally to the raw, intricate beauty found in nature and the overlooked character embedded within the man-made environment.
The Philosophy of Imperfection
My photographic style centers not on seeking perfection, but on celebrating the imperfections that define reality. The dents, the shadows, the wear, these are the elements I seek to make beautiful. I actively hunt for light, believing that the “perfect time” is whenever light exists, from the harsh noon sun to the deep shadows of night. Every moment offers a unique photographic possibility, challenging the notion that one must be confined to the golden or blue hour.
The Timelessness of Black and White
I predominantly photograph in black and white because it is a timeless medium. It divorces the image from the confines of a date, creating a sense of history and universality that color often impedes. Furthermore, I embrace the natural imperfections found in the image, opposing the manipulation that seeks to erase character.
Making a Photograph vs. Taking a Picture
For me, there is a critical distinction: taking a picture is an action without foresight; making a photograph is an act of intention. It demands pre-visualization and a commitment to realizing the final result. This is why I maintain a hands-on approach, eschewing the use of fully automatic settings, post-processing presets, and AI-generated imagery. The final image must be a product of deliberate human thought.
An Act of Preservation
Finally, my photography is often an act of preservation. Many of the scenes and subjects I capture are temporary, already gone or standing at the precipice of disappearance. Through the lens, I strive to give them a lasting presence.
Please check back often as new photographs are continually added. I am currently working on a new project, details will be shared soon!
